Job Description – Construction Litigation Partner

 

Due to continued growth, our client is seeking to add an experienced construction litigator to its team in Edmonton. The ideal candidate will have significant experience advising and representing owners, developers, contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and other stakeholders in a broad range of construction and infrastructure disputes.

 

The successful candidate will have experience managing complex litigation matters, including contractual disputes, delay and disruption claims, deficiency claims, builders’ liens, negligence claims, procurement disputes, and other matters arising from major construction and infrastructure projects. Candidates with a hybrid practice that includes both contentious and transactional construction work will also be considered.

 

Strong client service orientation and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain client relationships are key to success in this role. The successful candidate will have superior drafting, analytical, advocacy, negotiation, and communication skills, along with sound business judgment, strong practice management abilities, and a proven track record of delivering practical, strategic, and business-minded advice to clients.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and manage a broad construction litigation practice.
  • Advise and represent clients in construction and infrastructure disputes, including contractual claims, delay and disruption matters, deficiency claims, builders’ liens, negligence claims, and procurement disputes.
  • Manage litigation matters through all stages of the dispute resolution process, including negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and court proceedings.
  • Develop effective litigation strategies and provide practical, business-focused advice to clients.
  • Manage client relationships and continue to grow an established practice within the firm’s platform.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across practice groups, offices, and jurisdictions.
  • Mentor and support associates and junior lawyers within the litigation group.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives, including client relationship management, profile-building, and strategic growth opportunities.

 

Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge

 

  • LL.B. or J.D. degree (or equivalent).
  • Good standing with a Canadian Law Society.
  • Significant experience advising and representing clients in complex construction and infrastructure disputes.
  • Experience with contractual disputes, delay and disruption claims, deficiency claims, builders’ liens, procurement disputes, and related litigation matters.
  • Superior drafting, analytical, advocacy, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Strong business development, practice management, and client service abilities.
  • Collaborative approach, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal skills.
