Job Description – Construction & Infrastructure Partner

 

Due to continued growth, our client is seeking to add an experienced construction and infrastructure corporate lawyer to its team in Edmonton. The ideal candidate will have significant experience advising owners, developers, contractors, lenders, investors, public-sector entities, and other stakeholders on a broad range of construction, infrastructure, and project development matters.

The successful candidate will have experience drafting and negotiating complex construction and commercial agreements, including design-build agreements, construction management agreements, engineering, procurement and construction agreements, consulting agreements, development agreements, procurement documentation, and other project-related contracts. Candidates with a hybrid practice that includes both transactional and contentious construction work will also be considered.

 

Strong client service orientation and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain client relationships are key to success in this role. The successful candidate will have superior drafting, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, along with sound business judgment, strong practice management abilities, and a proven track record of delivering practical, business-minded advice to clients.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and manage a broad construction and infrastructure corporate practice.
  • Advise clients on construction, infrastructure, procurement, project development, and related commercial matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex construction and project agreements, including design-build, construction management, engineering, procurement and construction, consulting, and development agreements.
  • Advise clients on project structuring, risk allocation, procurement strategy, contract administration, and other matters arising throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage client relationships and continue to grow an established practice within the firm’s platform.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across practice groups, offices, and jurisdictions.
  • Mentor and support associates and junior lawyers within the corporate and construction groups.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives, including client relationship management, profile-building, and strategic growth opportunities.


Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge

 

  • LL.B. or J.D. degree (or equivalent).
  • Good standing with a Canadian Law Society.
  • Significant experience advising clients on complex construction, infrastructure, procurement, and project development matters.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating sophisticated construction, commercial, and project-related agreements.
  • Superior drafting, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Strong business development, practice management, and client service abilities.
  • Collaborative approach, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal skills.
