Job Description – Estates Lawyer
Our client is seeking a capable and self-directed Estates Lawyer to join its close-knit team. The successful candidate will work across a broad range of matters, including estate litigation, planning, and administration, with the opportunity to develop mediation and conflict resolution expertise. The position offers strong mentorship, autonomy, and the ability to build a sustainable practice with high visibility in the Edmonton legal community.
The firm welcomes candidates who bring a foundation in litigation and either direct experience in estates or a genuine interest in the area. Those with backgrounds in family, criminal, or general civil litigation will be considered, provided they bring strong client-facing capabilities and a desire to grow their practice. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer looking to take on a key role in a firm that values independence, accountability, and shared contribution at all levels.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Independently manage a variety of estate litigation, administration, and planning files
- Represent clients in surrogate court and other estate-related proceedings
- Participate in mediation and alternative dispute resolution where appropriate
- Contribute to the firm’s community presence and referral networks.
- Maintain high standards of client service, professionalism, and discretion.
Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge
- LL.B. or J.D. degree (or equivalent).
- Member in good standing with a Canadian Law Society.
- 5–8 years of relevant legal experience, ideally in estates, family, or litigation.
- Courtroom experience and willingness to appear in court as needed.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop trusted client relationships.
- Comfortable working in a small team where accountability and independence are key.
