Job Description – Senior Legal Counsel
Reporting to the General Counsel, the Lawyer will support a wide range of commercial legal matters. The ideal candidate will bring both strategic insight and operational legal experience.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with and support diverse teams across Procurement, IT, Finance, Operations, Customer Service, and Energy Solutions
- Take the lead on contract negotiation and drafting across a wide range of commercial matters
- Mentor and manage junior legal staff
- Oversee and maintain relationships with external counsel
- Contribute to broader legal initiatives as directed by the General Counsel
- Operate in a hybrid work environment (minimum two days per week in-office)
Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge
- LL.B. or J.D. degree (or equivalent).
- Good standing with a Canadian Law Society.
- 10+ years of transaction and procurement experience at a top-tier law firm or company.
- Proven track record of navigating and supporting corporate transactions, financings, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships.
- Sound judgement, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to evaluate and identify legal risk.
- Excellent drafting and communication skills.
- Strategic business acumen.
- Excellent ability to adapt, collaborate and work as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of the electricity sector and its associated regulatory environment would be considered an asset.
